How to Find a Medical Director for Cosmetic Laser in Arizona

You completed your laser training, you’ve researched starting a business, you’re ready to start earning money – now you need a medical director to oversee you!  But how do you find one?? Here are a few ways you can find options for hiring a medical director for laser, IPL or radiofrequency in Arizona.

1. Check out the list of approved medical directors registered with Arizona Department of Health Services.  This list does not list all of the available medical directors in Arizona, but these professionals have gone through the registration and approval process with the Health Department (which regulates cosmetic laser, IPL and RF in Arizona.)  The list is alphabetical (bummer my last name is Whelchel), not based on who has the most years under their belt, but it is good place to start.  Check it out here - https://www.azdhs.gov/documents/licensing/radiation-regulatory/nir/cert-cosmetic-md.pdf

1. Search online.  Include the search term “Arizona” to find medical directors that you can work with in Arizona.  Your medical director needs to be licensed in the state you are going to do procedures in.  For an off-site medical director, you don’t need someone who is especially close to you, as it is easy to answer questions by phone and email, and telemedicine gives access to patient appointments in all areas. Check out the websites and see what information you can find, and if it seems like that medical director could be a good fit for your business.   

1. Ask for referrals.  Check out online groups or others you know that have a laser business.  Honestly, even if you personally know someone in the laser business, many people are happy to share resources or contact information if they have been happy with the service they have received.  So don’t be shy, just ask!  The worst thing that can happen is no one has any referrals.

Contact laser schools that offer Medical Director and/or laser training.  Laser schools should have a list or ideas of ways to find a medical director for your business.  They often give priority to the person serving as the medical director for their laser school or instructors in their laser program.
